SAPSASA and PE Update T4 W1 2018

SAPSASA Girls Softball

The girls softball team; Amelia K, Sophia W, Maggie H, Mia M-B, Lily R, Jessica Z, Paige M, Darcy G, Macy P and Laura N have begun practising in readiness for their first knockout game for term 4. The team will be playing Burnside Primary School on Monday 29th October at Colonel Light Gardens on Mortlock Park. Practice sessions will be on Thursdays at lunch times with their coach Renae Simmons.

 

SAPSASA District Athletics Championships

On Tuesday 25th of September William C, Jeremy M, Coco M and Poppy S represented City South at the SAPSASA District Athletics Championships. Congratulations to Poppy S who came 5th in 11 yo Discus, Coco M who came 5th in the 10yo 200m finals and Jeremy M who came 5th in the 10 yo 200m relay final. Everyone performed so well and achieved their personal best. Their participation was well rewarded by City South District coming 3rd overall in the State. A mammoth achievement.

PE Week

PE Week is a time to celebrate why this learning area is crucial to all of our student physical, emotional and social wellbeing. There will be lots of lunch time activities throughout Week 5. Highlights will be the Adelaide 36ers coming to have a scratch match with our students and a table tennis tournament. More information will be posted in the next newsletter.

 (SAPSASA Boys Knockout Netball team

The SAPSASA Boys Netball team; Oscar C, Joshua S, Josh B, Harry H, Max S, Samuel A and Nathan H played against Norwood Primary School on Thursday 6th September at Norwood Primary School. The final score 22 to 8. Congratulations to Norwood Primary School who will be competing in the Grand Final on Thursday 27th September. A big thank you to Susan Bradley who supported the team with transportation and to the parents who came along to the game.

SPORTS DAY RELAYS TRIALS

Only one week to go until Sports Day Friday the 14th of September.

The House Captains have written the chants and finalised the health hustle in readiness for the day. Mascots will be selected this week.

The House Relay Teams trials were run on Wednesday 29th of August. Congratulations to all of the students who trialled. The list will be included in the program next week.

SAPSASA Boys Knockout Netball team

The SAPSASA Boys Netball team; Oscar C, Joshua S, Josh B, Harry H, Max S, Samuel A and Nathan H played against All Saints at Colonel Light Gardens on Monday 20th August. The final score 20 to 7. Our team will now be playing in the semi-finals on Thursday 6th September against Norwood Primary School.  If they win this game they will be competing in the Grand Final on Thursday 27th September. Good luck boys.

 

SAPSASA Athletics Trials

The SAPSASA Athletics team attended the SAPSASA Combined Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 22nd August at Santos Stadium. There were some amazing results. Well done team.

Congratulations to the following students who have been selected to represent City South at the Athletics Metropolitan Championships on Tuesday 25th September. Coco M, 10o 200m relay, Jeremy M 10yo long jump and relay, William C 10yo 800m, Lewis S 10yo 200m, Evie Z 11yo relay, Poppy S 11yo discus and Ashleigh S 12yo Relay and 800m sprints.

A big thank you to Jess Roberts and Briana Rae who assisted Kim Boothey on the day.

 

SA Schools Orienteering Relay Championships

The SA Schools Orienteering Relay Championships was held on Friday 31st August at Thorndon Park, Athelstone. Congratulations to Maggie H, Ben V R, Beth V R, Owen D, Georgia L, Tessa J, Ned B, Will V, Lewis S, Oliver B, Thomas B and Oscar T who competed in the competition.  Oliver B, Thomas B and Oscar T came 3rd and Maggie H, Ben V R and Beth V R came 6th. Congratulations to Ned B who completed his course in 16 minutes – 5th overall and Oscar T 17’43 coming in 6th. Everyone did their personal best. A big thank you to the parents Michelle Holds, Paul Draper and Steve Tamblyn who assisted with transport. The students really appreciated your time and support.

SPORTS DAY RELAYS TRIALS
Another reminder that Sports Day is fast approaching, it will be held on Friday the 14th of September. All students will be invited to trial for their House Relay Teams on Wednesday 29th of August, straight after lunch. The first four students will be running in the relays on Sports Day, the 5th and 6th students will be reserves.
Parents…don’t forget to wear your sand shoes in readiness to run in the parent relay.

Primary School Golf Event
Ben V R attended a try out Golf Qualifying Day on Monday 13th August at Adelaide Shores Golf Park. He completed the 9 holes with a 49. He really enjoyed the experience.

Tennis at Colonel Light Gardens Primary – flyers going out to students
On Sunday 26th August there is a Come and Try Tennis and BBQ Day at Kingwood Tennis Club. For more information please call 0419 829 624 or go on to their website www.kingswoodtennisclub.com.au.
16 students came to the Come and Try coaching session at our school with John Gericke on Wednesday. This will continue until the end of this term for year 3 and 4 students. There is a lot of interest from the year 5s as well. This will have to wait until next year.

SAPSASA Boys and Girls Basketball Championships results
On Wednesday 25th July the SAPSASA Boys and Girls year 6/7 Basketball teams competed against other schools at Pasadena Stadium in the SAPSASA Boys and Girls Basketball Championships. Both teams came third overall. Congratulations to Oscar C, Sam L, Josh B, Jack B, Alex S, Mitchell O, Max S, Samuel A, Nathan H, William H, Nellie K, Sophie A, Paige M, Jessica Z, Ariana T, Jasmain P, Amani N and Ocea L. A big thank you to Tanya Waye who coached the girls team whilst I coached the boys team and to the parents who scored. Trent H was a referee on the day, showing the diversity of our students at our school. Well done to everyone.

SAPSASA Boys Knockout Teams
The boys netball team, Oscar C, Jack B, Mitchel O, Joshua S, Nathan H, Max S and Sam A played on Wednesday afternoon on 20th May at Hawthorndene Primary Schools at Hawthorndene Primary School. The final score was 9 to 15. We will be playing either Pimpala Primary School or All Saints College. Dates will be determined once we know who we are playing. Good luck boys.

Both boys soccer team played on Wednesday 13th June on Mortlock Park against Westbourne Park Primary School. The boys team, Sean D-W, Ocar C, Jack B, Mitchell O, Charlie W, Max E, Alex S, Jacob H, Lucas D-B, Joshua S, Jasper L, Izaiah T, Josh B and Seth played an amazing game. Final score 1 to 6. Westbourne Park Primary School will continue in the knockout competition. A big thank you to Shane Pluck for coaching the team.

SAPSASA Athletics Trials
SAPSASA Athletics trials will be held on Friday 29th June 9am-10.50am. If the weather is raining we will use the backup day Monday 2nd July 12.10-3pm. Students who are born 2008, 2007, 2006 and 2005 will trial in 100m, 200m and 800m sprints, shotput, discus, long jump and high jump. It is a great opportunity for everyone to trial. Results will be published early next term. The students that are selected will be invited to attend the SAPSASA Combined Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 22nd August at Santos Stadium.
